With major water projects being promised, members told us they want clearer visibility from Sydney Water – what’s coming, how the work will be rolled out, who to talk to, how licensing and accreditation work, and how to get involved.
CCF NSW’s CEO has begun meeting with Sydney Water’s leadership team to understand what they need from industry, how we can help, and to share what would help us help them. To support that conversation, we hosted a closed-door contractor roundtable – both in person and online – to hear directly from our members about their experiences.
The discussion was lively, honest, and grounded in the realities of the work our members do every day – from those doing $20,000 one-day connection jobs, to larger contractors delivering complex sewerage treatment plants, to earthmoving and haulage specialists, and contractors working under Sydney Water panels.
Top issues raised included:
– Difficult to get Sydney Water licensing and accreditation.
– Contractors may have a business with a Sydney Water licence, or do water projects for other water authorities, but can’t get a look in.
– Smaller work packages promised have not materialised – the same contractors are getting work.
– Unclear how the various Sydney Water procurement models work (alliances, connections, licensing & accreditations, etc).
– The need for greater visibility of the full project pipeline and what procurement models Sydney Water will use.

– CCF NSW will share Contractor views with Sydney Water leadership teams.
– The feedback will shape Sydney Water’s 2026 Pipeline Event.
