Daracon Group’s Plant Operator, Tim Lamb, has finished as the sixth-best Operator in the world at the Cat® Global Operator Challenge Finals at CONEXPO in Las Vegas – a remarkable achievement on the world’s biggest stage for operating excellence.
Lamb’s sixth place in the global rankings marks the culmination of an exceptional journey that began at the NSW Heats, progressed through his win at the NSW State Final hosted by WesTrac, and continued with a podium finish (third) at the Asia Pacific Regional Final in Japan, where he also earned the coveted Excavator Champion title.
“Tim’s achievement is a special moment for Daracon Group and for Australian Operators,” said Cory Hay, Daracon Group Plant & Transport Divisional Manager.
“His dedication, calm under pressure nature and technical precision reflect the way we invest in people and equipment every day. We’re incredibly proud of Tim’s sixth place in the global rankings and the broader team who supported his preparation,” said Cory.
“I still can’t believe it. I’m just a guy from Newcastle who comes to work each day to do a job I love – and this time last year I was just happy to have a crack at the WesTrac NSW Heats. Fast forward 12 months and I’m standing on the ground in Las Vegas at the Global Operator Challenge. It’s truly unbelievable. Thank you to WesTrac and Caterpillar for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.” said Tim Lamb.
On reflection of Tim’s success in Las Vegas, Cory shared these thoughts on how Daracon’s ethos of having the best people and the best equipment has helped get Tim to Vegas, “We’ve long believed that when you pair passionate people with the right training, technology and support, extraordinary things happen. Tim getting to Las Vegas is a testament to that belief and to the teamwork across Daracon Group, our partners at WesTrac and Caterpillar, and the broader civil construction industry,” said Cory.
Tim is an example of the strong talent emerging from the Hunter region and Australia’s civil construction sector. Billions of dollars of infrastructure spend has been invested in a range of major projects across the region, with backing from all levels of Government, in addition to private investment as the housing boom shows no sign of slowing down in the region.
A World‑Class Stage for Elite Operating Skill
Held at CONEXPO, North America’s largest construction event, the Cat® Global Operator Challenge is widely regarded as the ultimate test of machine control, efficiency and safety, placing elite operators under high‑pressure, precision‑based tasks in front of a global audience. The Best Operator in the World was named as Brian Hayden from USA, who received a trophy, placard and a $10,000 USD prize or a trip to a Caterpillar Factory of his choice across the world (up to the value of $10,000 USD).
