In late May, Michael Crosby was formally appointed as the CFMEU’s construction and general (C&G) division’s new administrator.
The FWC General Manager Murray Furlong said he expects that Mr Crosby “will continue the important work towards returning the C&G division to lawful operation”.
Michael Crosby has over half a century of experience in senior union leadership roles and, since June 2025, has been tasked by the previous administrator with rebuilding the NSW Branch. Crosby has previously served as National President of United Voice for over a decade, as well as being a former director of the ACTU’s organising centre, general secretary of the International Federation of Actors, and has worked for the Service Employees International Union in the USA.
Crosby has said this is a “new phase” of the administration that “requires us to embed the achievements to date and begin a different phase of reform”.
Crosby also indicated:
- New personnel are moving into place to implement the systems and processes required to ensure the union can operate lawfully, ethically, and eventually democratically.
- This stage requires a different set of skills within the administration and the union.
- The CFMEU is working to regain its position in civil society
- The CFMEU is changing how it engages with employers, employer groups, regulators, governments, other unions, and other industry partners.
Further developments in the CFMEU administration will be communicated with members as the rebuilding phase begins.
